Re: RS and Allied Update #6

Hi there,

I just want to say that I am slightly disappointed in the despatch of my RaspberryPi from RS. After hearing about the Raspberry Pi, I went to the site, read a bit about and decided to buy two of them. I went to the RS site, which advised that they expected to despatch the devices within 5 days. Cool. I bought two, and received an order confirmation number (1010224647) and the mail advised that I would receive a mail as soon as the device was despatched.

That was on December 29 and until today, January 12, I have heard nothing. I have accommodated for holidays and allowed for double RS's expected despatch time, but haven't received the despatch email even (yep - checked by spam folder).

All this said, I would not have written this post if I had been told that the expected despatch was 30 days. All that needs to be done by RS is to give people the correct despatch expectations.

Hello,

I have been waiting since the end of Oktober.

10/27/12 - Order Confirmation
12/11/12 - Dispatch Confirmation
12/13/12 - Diapatch in Germany

Still has not Arrived. I wrote an E-Mail on 08/01/13 to [email protected] discribing my situation and asking what their status of my shippment is, and since then I haven't heard anything.

Maybe this post will draw your attention since the E-Mail obviously has not.

Best regards,

@The Stick: this is the RS and Allied thread, it simply is dominated by RS customers as more of them are having issues than are Allied customers.

I strongly recommend phoning Allied to explain the situation, they are much more willing to act on phone calls than the folks at RS. I think it best to call the main Allied phone number and find out who is handling Pi orders. I am sorry your order got messed up by your credit card company.

Oh, your page when you sign in at Allied will give a name and number for your personal customer service rep, but I have seen in some post here that our inquiries get routed to a Raspberry Pi person. I have no idea if that is continuing. I ordered my Pi in June or July, finally got it the first week of December from Allied.

Hi all,

I received my Pi yesterday (in Italy) from RS. Order was on the 1st of January. :D

Reports made in China on the card and works for basic Basic functionality (startup&config/ network/ xwindows). Problem with screen offset to the left but working on it. :?

I'm sure its just a vocal minority complaining, I ordered mine from RS Electronics last week, waited a few days, and got my pi and power adapter today from the courrier. Go RS Electronics South Africa!

I ordered a PI from Allied a week ago, they said it should only take a couple weeks more to get enough stock to fill current orders. Time will tell. Pleased with their service so far.

I ordered my Pi on the 31th of December at RS and have not heard since. But the site stated (and still does) that they expect to ship within a week. I send an email to the customer care address, but am not convinced I will get an answer from them.

What worries me the most is that I read two complete different things here. People who order at RS and getting one in 1 week (even if they ordered days after I've put in my order) and others waiting for weeks or even months. Something is not going right at RS. If I had known this upfront I would not have placed the order with RS. (Only myself to blame, I should have read this forum earlier)

I hope the Pi management will start notice these problems going on and starts to contact RS to solve them. IMHO they are awfully quiet on this subject.

RS were definitely months behind on orders at one point due to supply/manufacturing constraints, but apparently since about mid-December this is no longer the case. I think that there are still some issues from the older orders, but I think these are no longer caused by supply constraints.

However what this is now translating to in the real world I am not sure but it looks like it is a few weeks in most cases.

My RaspberryPI order story
  • 17.Sep.12
    • I ordered 2 RaspberryPI, payed with Paypal
      10weeks (dispatch expected)
      I got order confirmation
    25.Nov.12
    • 10weeks over
FAQ say my order will dispatched later, okay just wait
finally it was expected to be dispatch in the week of 10th – 16th Dec
    17.Dec.12
    • No dispatch notice yet, getting nervous
    22.Dec.12 01.Jan.13
    • Still no package arrived, I leave a message in raspberrypi.org forum that I am still wating
still no answer on mail from 22.Dec
    02.Jan.13
    • got private message from "[email protected]" in raspberrypi.org forum, asking for name an complete order number
      answered same day at 3pm
got mail from [email protected] at 5pm saying: GLS are struggling to deliver your Raspberry Pi....
    03.Jan.13
    • I answered Sandra at 1am my address and phone (same as mentioned mid Sep in order confirmation, I checked)
    11.Jan.13
    • another week is over and:
      no answer (email)
      no dispatch notice
      no package yet
    14.Jan.13
    • I filled out cancel an order form
    15.Jan.13
    • answer from RS, with a HTML quoted GLS tracking, my package is waiting in GLS Parcel Shop
17pm: I extracted tracking number from mail and find out the shops address, I visit the shop and there it was
    16.Jan.13
    • another mail from RS answering my mail from Friday, with shop address
So what was the problem?

First I wasn't at home when GLS was trying to deliver.

Second. RS do not send me a tracking number or even a dispatch notice, nor do I know what kind of package service it will be (up to the mail from 3.Jan), twice.

And third GLS are not willing to leave a notification card that a package is waiting for me, also twice.

Now I got it and all anger has gone. I am happy. :-)

Hi All,

First post here and unfortunately it's not a good one,

Ordered mine (and paid for) on 29th June 2012 (yes in 12 days time that is bang on half a year ago)

I've sent RS an email the week before christmas (no reply) and sending another one tonight. Seriously pissed off to be honest, especially since it seems other people are getting december orders now.

Just wanted to bitch and moan a bit, I'm in Australia so realise things might take a little longer, but seriously I could have walked to the UK by now. Hurry the F up

Hi

Ordered 1 PI in September, got order confirmation. At December - no dispatch info, still waiting. Get tired - cancel order, BUT as answer received a email that the order is shipped, after that - still no info.
Order No 1010189449

Very, very disappointed.

Ok, if I had waited one more day I would not have been complaining anymore. Mine came in today. Image is written to the SD-Card as we speak. However I still think the supply-chain is not in order seeing that other people are waiting for three months and on.
