Unable to browse intranet website

Thu Jan 02, 2020 8:35 am

I have created a website on my local network of four Raspberries. HTTP not HTTPS as it is Intranet
When I attempt to connect from my development raspberry to my website raspberry, irrespective of whether I use Chrome or Firefox, I get told that the site is insecure and get connected to my router.
All Pi running latest uptodate raspbian and Apache2.
The IP involved are Router 192.168.0.1, Development machine 192.168.0.110, Website machine 192.168.0.100 .
Please tell me what I should alter to get this to work.

That is puzzling.
If in addition to what you described, the server was configured to automatically upgrade HTTP to HTTPS and redirect to a public dns name or the router’s public IP, I guess something like what you describe might be happening.

Thank you for your reply but I do not understand how that helps me fix the problem.

Try using wget for basic connection diagnostics:

Code: Select all

wget -S -O /dev/null http://your.development.site/
(replace the URL with the one you are actually using in Chrome and Firefox)

That will show the server responses so you can see what is responding and how.

It may be just a DNS issue.

Example output from one of my internal sites:

Code: Select all

rpdom@raspberrypi:~ $ wget -S -O /dev/null http://spiders.rpdom.net/
--2020-01-03 05:50:10-- http://spiders.rpdom.net/

The first two or three lines will probably give a clue as to what is going wrong.
Please hide any non-local (ie. not 192.168.x.y) IP addressed that show up if you post the results.

I have altered nothing but now suddenly I can browse to my server from the intranet.
Now why the internet connections should be different from the intranet connections is more than I understand. The security should, in my opinion, be on the internet and not so much on the intranet. However up until now anyone could connect from anywhere in the world except me on my intranet. Beats me.
