What type of USB-C cable do I need for Raspberry Pi 4?

Thu Oct 10, 2019 6:10 pm

I needed a short USB-C cable to connect my Pi 4 to my USB Power Charger but neither of them are working even though it's able to power my other USB-C devices. Is there a special USB-C to USB-C I need for the Pi 4?

You need a Power Supply not a device Charger, there is nothing to charge up on a Raspberry Pi.

But I'm using this RavPower charger and it powers four of my Pi 4's fine using USB-A TO USB-C cables. Only the USB-C to USB-C won't power on my Pi 4.

Get an inexpensive cable that does NOT contain a chip to detect what sort of device it is attached to. The current Pi4B PCB has a USB-C power compliance error in the design. It works fine, so long as the cable doesn't try to get cute and attempt to identify what sort of device it is.

You need a basic cable that is *NOT* "electrically marked". As I understand it any cable that supports more than 3A or supports USB 3 will be electrically marked, so you need to avoid cables with those features.

I have personally used
