Hello,

As my skill with Raspberry Pi increases, I find I am using more Pi's to host various services on my network.

As a result of this I am fast running out of power sockets.

I wondered if it is safe to use a 4 Multi-Port Quick Charge Mains Wall Charger Adapter Plug to power multiple pis?.

Below is an example

This is safe. I am doing it with a similar multi-charger.

"Safe" and "performing satisfactorily" are two different things.

You need to check the total load the PSU can support. Often they will not provide the full current on all ports simultaneously.

Even then they may not maintain 5V when running a significant load.

The markings on that photo say 2.4A @ 5V, 1.8A @ 9V or 1.5A @ 12V.

I'd have thought it was easier to use a mains 13A socket strip and an official power supply for each Raspberry.

The developer of the PiDramble uses this product:

An almost similar device was used by another forum member.... with disastrous result for him/her.

you're free to follow his/her example....

while most of us follow the official recommendation of the RPF.... and having peace of mind while at it.

IMHO that corrspnds to the the AI standard for smart chargers.
They can deliver higher voltages than 5V, but only after a handshake over the USB communication channel.
Nothing wrong with using this charger at 5V only.

I am using that one, but for one 3b+ Pi or 2 3a+ Pis only.

They deliver a good 5V voltage, the display measurement is accurate enough and I am informed about the drawn current.

I'm looking for one that will give me 12amps total, 4 x 3amps.

The RAV unit discussed in
USB powered hub or charging station to power Pi 4B cluster?
may be suitable.

An ATX (or even an ITX) PSU may be up for the job....

Not directly! Powering the Pis with an unfused high current Power supply is dangerous!
You will need to include a proper fusing on each output and include everything in a decent cabinet...
That is probably not something for everyone.

A good solution would have been to re-use a charger from an obsolete laptop. They usually deliver 3-4A at 19v.
With a buck converter as that one for each pi :

you can power around five Pi 4 and seven Pi 3, maybe even more if you don't use a lot of periphery.

I'd still prefer DougieLawson's suggested solution...

safer
simpler
modular
better isolation
