How hot does your Pi get?

My 3b+ sits at 55c to 65c

my 4b pegs in its case.... its sad, my ambient temp its 21.6c

My brand new Pi 4 with the alpha issue firmware upgrade, Buster Lite and a standard case with lid removed at idle:

CPU: 59C
Ambient: 29C

My RPi4B-4G in fan equipped armor case, ambient at 29C, idles at:
when using supplied blue thermal pad: 45C
when thermal pad changed to copper shim: 36C ~ 37C

fan quiet at 22db measured 30mm above setup

56C with heatsink and top popped off.

Did you do the EEPROM boot upgrade?
It saves 300mw.

I would disagree.
The Pi4 indeed runs hotter than previous model Pi, but sitting on my TV cabinet with no enclosure / case, I struggle to push it beyond 68°C while playing back 1080p YouTube videos via Chromium.

Can we please have this thread merged with one of the dozens of already existing threads?

The existence of an official plastic case that causes it to throttle undermines this. Many people will not use a Pi without some kind of enclosure.

My guess is that RasPi 5 will decrease temperatures on the board at least slightly, even if it means performance doesn't improve much over the Pi4.

yeah with the lid on, its pretty much unusable.

JB welded some heatsinks to the soc etc, put a blower on it, its much cooler.

I didn't measure it as I'm not happy running it like like. Going to wait for a heatsink and fan.

Feel free to run it like that, it won't damage itself. I run my Pi4's for development with no case, no heatsink, no fan. It's fine. Rarely throttles.

And yes, we don't need yet another thread.
