Fri Dec 07, 2012 11:20 pm

Just curious :)

One is that I have a webserver and surveillance camera

One that I going to have as NES game station for my old game.

One that I going to have just for fun and try things.

How many PIs?
- 1 Raspberry PI rev1 board from RS (with Hynix RAM).

What are you using it for?
- XBMC (OpenELEC / Xbian) steaming videos i.e. TVCacthup, BBC iPlayer, 4oD etc (just like a YouView box but 10 times cheaper)

- Raspbian Wheezy: running Apache in SSL mode, learning to code, compile code, write extremely complicated bash scripts, cgi and php.
- Project PI-Rat Radio: re-broadcast live internet radio streams (mocp) via an FM transmitter dongle for my house and garden area (mainly Digitally Imported stuff).
I'm using my wifi enabled Android handset to control the playlists and frequency selection thanks to specially crafted web page with cgi scripts I coded myself.:)

The FM dongle in case anyone was wondering is: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230669438036? ... 97.c0.m619

Not sure what else I want to do with my PI I'm certainly not going to use it as desktop PC substitute i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, browsing etc.
I won't even spend my time wondering whether Adobe Flash will ever work on the PI - I have a laptop that does everything I need and much faster.

1. I'm finishing off the case for it, then it's going to control my Christmas lights :)
note: I may or may not know what I'm talking about...

I have 5, everytime a version appears with significant changes I order one. My latest 512MB version is on the end of my cable broadband service so I can access it from anywhere using VNC over SSH on my phone or whatever desktop I am using. I tinker with functionality, gradually extending its use. Currently home automation monitoring central heating temperature, I am adding thermostat control and looking for an interfaceable heating programme controller.

I have 3 Model B, 1 256MB variant and 2 512MB variant. The 256MB Pi is my network services device running Fedora 17, provides DHCP, DNS (BIND), NTP, PXE, etc. services, with greater flexibility than my internet router, and a better always-on device, versus the old PC I used to use to provide the same services. The 512MB Pi devices are XBMC thin clients for my two older TVs that did not have native/embedded DLNA/UPNP support. XBMC on Pi is not perfect, I will have a few 1080p videos that have some quirks, but everything I have in 720p is fine, as long as I have handbraked source files to H264 (mkv). I have not as yet purchased hardware codec keys, but may at some point. I plan to get at least one more Pi to get crazy with GPIO interface, when I have time to do so. I have a long list of projects planned, control of Pool interface, my garden lighting, my sprinkler system, my garagedoor, etc., etc.

I have one B256. It's keeping up to date with the source (headerless), and sometimes running omxplayer. It's being a nice off device at present. My brain is on a "can I make a unified light weight android and pi development kit?" and on a "why is my droid display not a bluetooth or USB display, using a framebuffer proxy?"

I currently have only one it's not the last !
I build a home server that will provide many IT services in the house :
  • File sharing
  • Web server
  • Time machine backup
  • Airplay service
  • No-ip client
  • Music server with MPD
  • rTorrent service
  • etc.
This machine is perfect to perform all of these tasks !!!
I need a second one to imagine other projects ;-)

Software and electronic tutorials : Samba, Airplay, CUPS, Time machine, Nginx, Owncloud, rTorrent, Wordpress, etc.

Five:
  • a 512MB as a general server/video host.
  • a 512MB that was going to replace a SheevaPlug as the house's music server and gateway, but is being returned because it is broken.
  • one controlling X10 lights, and also on occasional vinyl-digitizing duty.
  • one set up with a Pi Plate for electronics furtling.
  • one that I've never actually seen, because I ordered two from Newark Canada on Feb 29 at the same time my friend ordered one from RS. I got mine early June, so I lent him one. His finally arrived in October.
