Which Flirc case should I get for my RPis

Mon Jul 22, 2019 8:51 am

On Flirc website:
Flirc Raspberry Pi Case
The Kodi Edition Raspberry Pi Case (aka 2nd Generation)
Flirc Raspberry Pi 4 Case
The Kodi Edition Raspberry Pi 4 Case

On Amazon website:
Flirc Raspberry Pi Case Gen2 (New Model)
Kodi Edition Raspberry Pi Case

I am confused about the differences between the models. Flirc shows the Kodi Edition as the 2nd Gen case while the case that Amazon shows as 2nd Gen looks like the original case!

Also, Flirc says that you can't see the LEDs for a RPi3 if you have a Flirc Raspberry Pi Case. You must get the Kodi Edition to see the LEDs.

For my RPi 3B+ should I get the Kodi Edition or will the original case be OK?

The same goes for the RPi 4B I am getting?

I have an RPI 3B+ and I bought the 2nd generation FLIRC case from Amazon - and it's the correct fit for the 3B+. However, It is true that the Activity LED (green) is not visible through the slot of the case by design even though the Power LED (red) is easily visible, at least for me. If this is important to you, some people have filed the spot on the case where the LEDs are to make them more visible when in-use.

This case has been great as a passive heatsink, I haven't noticed the temps go above low 60s (down from 70+ under load) - I am using it as a desktop computer.

1st gen fits around the 3b & 3b+ but LED's aren't visible. 2nd gen is the same as the Kodi case (KODI has extra decoration) and LED's are visible.

The 4B has a different form factor (ports moved & added) so for the 4b you'll need the flirc that's specifically designed for it.
