Small 4k display?

Wed Jun 26, 2019 3:07 pm

The new Pi 4 does 4k video, so is there or will there be any small 4k displays available?

How small is small?

have a look at http://www.panelook.com/resmodlist.php? ... E2&by=desc to get an idea of what's available in the market (might not be the full list).

So, what is your understanding of 'display'?
There are tons of TFT module used in notebooks but you will need to have a suitable controller board which converts your HDMI into eDP (embedded display port). Or get hands on a 31.5in UHD monitor .. which is considered to be 'small' by people whom are using 80in plus TV's.

Really?
From their spec:
The Lilliput FS7 features our first full HD native panel, clocking in at 1920 x 1200.
So in fact they are scaling down ...

I haven't checked to see if they are shipping yet, but the second Packed Pixel kickstarter includes a 13 in 4K display.

How small, let's say like the 7 inch raspberry pi touch screen? Maybe a 3.5 inch, maybe 11 inch?

For a touch screen, it looks like the smallest one at the link above is 15.6, obviously a laptop screen. Smaller touch screen would be nice for a pi based small portable computer or tablet. The new pi 4 has me thinking about the possibilities.

from my experiences with a 14" 6K notebook screen and a 13" full-HD touch screen for my Pi you'll probably will have no benefit from 4K displays smaller than that at all.

Why would anyone need a 7 inch 4k monitor?
At that size, the individual pixels will be so infinitesimally small and densely packed, it'd be impossible to distinguish them from a 1080 screen...

I’ve never seen one that small, but my 65 inch is stunning in 4K. I don’t know, maybe you’re right, and there’s nothing to see.

One project I want to do is a digital dash and stereo head unit for a custom car. Higher resolution screens would look stunning, or so I’d think.
