Does Bluetooth v5 mean 5.0 or 5.1?

Mon Jun 24, 2019 10:42 am

Hi
Pi 4B mentions Bluetooth v5.
Where can I get full details of the radio?
I am curious if it is 5.0 or 5.1
If it has 2MPHY and LE_CODED
Or perhaps if 5.1 compatible them it has AoA/AoD

Had a look on the Bluetooth SIG listing site and got no hits for BCM2711

Excited at the opportunities that v5 brings.

Look forward to some feedback and many thanks in advance.

As far as I know Cypress don't do 5.1 yet, I spent some time looking for it on their webpages.
I would be nice if this was a software update, but I suspect antenna diversity hardware is needed in the chip?

Nordic have 5.1 and modules are available from third parties.
Could a Pi bot be made and use 5.1 beacons for navigation?
Anyway we have lots of uarts now on the Pi4, add on 5.1 module/hat?

the Bluetooth is done not in the BCM SoC, but in the WiFi / radio combi chip by Cypress. it's the same which was used on the Pi 3B+ as well, with firmware upgraded / re-certified to Bluetooth 5.
