Tricky tricky fooling everyone into believing it wouldn't be out until 2020. I'm assuming VC5 has x11 drivers, yes?
It's actually a VC6 3D block. Lots of work has been done on the MESA video drivers, which manifests as more overall speed.

I might be asking too much, but does the micro SD card slot have the same data transfer speed as before?
No. Double.
DDR50 is now supported and the controller now supports ADMA.
That's great!

Thank you for solving (I guess) the Scratch 3 problem
I asked about Scratch for the RPI4, and got this comment:

The online Scratch 3 runs pretty well. The faster ARM processor and increased RAM really help the HTML5 editor. The default display environment is FKMS so 3D acceleration works. You might have to edit /usr/bin/chromium-browser launcher script to remove 'disable-gpu' in the download image because there was a problem with video-decode but I think that should be resolved very soon via an apt upgrade.
So yes, Scratch 3 will work well on an RPI4.

Nice job on the new Pi!
Just curious though, how much did the H265 hardware unit roughly eat in cost (Patent royalties etc.)?

Windows 10 Desktop Editions only run on x86 CPU Architecture, you may be able to use a virtual machine ??

I just went through the post. Exciting new specs! Congratulations, and thank you :)

(curious to see if there will be many takers for the 2GB intermediate model.)

The dual Micro HDMI was the surprise :D
Needed so Pi's can be for my development PC?
Guess I can retire that old Celeron Linux box now.

But the big surprise was the time frame, a bunch of stars must really have been in alignment.
Can we have some history of how it all came about now?
What caused problems and how long it all took?

VC6 I only saw once in a mesa post?
Was that why Eric was quiet for 6 months?
Wonder what else the VC6 can do?

Does it still do OpenVG?
More i2c and uarts, cool.
Separate PWM from audio :D
USB 2.0 on the power connector? OTG_Gadget mode?
Could a Pi 4 host 4 USB Pi 4's? :o

Wow, Vulkan, hot diggity dog :o
Ouch, was hoping I had until next year to learn that ;)
What will be the first Pi Vulkan game, vkQuake?

Any idea if we'll get our hands on the V3D v6 documentation like the V3D v4 ones were released?

At the very least sounds like the driver is open source at least in part?

Only if Microsoft do the port. We don't specifically do anything WIndow related.

Yes. But with the Mesa V3V driver it does less.

About Bluetooth 5...
The Bluetooth chip CYW43455 is the same as in the Model 3+, but is now certified as Bluetooth 5.0. However, none of the Bluetooth 5 features are there - no 2M PHY, no Coded PHY (Long Range) and no LE Advertising Extensions. They could just have left the version at 4.2 to avoid confusion.

The Linux driver is entirely OSS, and it controls the entire 3D block. However, it's currently talks to the firmware via dispmanx which is not OSS. But that a relatively small part of the overall system.

I'm a sure some sort of history will turn up sooner or later. In actual fact, the chip development process was relatively smooth. Hence its early release.

What you see is what you get. Eric has been busy, although he no longer works for Broadcom, so we have taken quite a bit of development in house.

Amazing to see such a leap in performance and its not even Pi Day

I notice the VC6 is the new GPU and it is lsted as OpenGLES3.x does that mean we have 3.1/3.2 ?
