Trail camera

Sat Jun 15, 2019 12:01 am

Looking to make a simple trail camera with the Pi camera and a PIR sensor. I have gotten close with some code from others, but not quite there yet. I'd like to do this in Python. What's missing is the ability to write the image file with the date and time stamp. I can get it to put it right into the picture itself with annotate, but also it would be easier to find files if they were named when they were taken.
I have tried so many different pieces of code I am a bit lost now. Can someone just point me in the right direction of some python code to get this going please.
Appreciate it, thank you.

So I found picamera and it's been helpful so far. Any other tips can be provided as well please.

The first of which would be how to save to the USB drive for easy picture retrieval.

https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... storage.md

should get you to grips with mounting and using your usb drive..

How are you intending to power the camera and how long between battery swaps ?

compared to devices optimised for long battery life Rpi dev boards can be fairly power hungry.
