Relay triggering GPIO

Fri May 24, 2019 1:26 pm

My question is related to the post below, but I felt it is better I start a new post for future reference.
viewtopic.php?f=63&t=230964&p=1461058#p1461058

Instead of a tactile switch, I would be using an HID reader with a controller called V1000 and a V100 (too much detail here), but basically when they swipe their fob on the HID reader it triggers a relay that is basically shorting the contacts. Those contacts would wire into a GPIO on the pi.

My question is, would be the same setup? do I have to use the same resistors, capacitors, etc?
I think the question is probably yes, but I want to make sure.

As long as there is no other connection to the relay contact then you can treat it like any other switch you would connect to your pi gpio, you could use the software pull-up/down or use external resistors to do your pull-up/down.
