Super-lightweight web framework suitable for Pi webapps?

Sat May 04, 2019 12:17 pm

Today I run a static html website on lighttpd on my Pi 1B+ with external HDD. It works like a charm, both in terms of speed and stability.

I'd like to add a few dynamic elements, to make it more like a super-lightweight personal cloud. The goal is not feature-richness; I want to build a minimal viable product that runs well on a Pi 1. The question is which framework to use. I'm an experienced sysadmin/backend dev, but I've never worked in a project where hardware limitations and code efficiency are at the core of the product.

I've been looking at Django and Flask, but I haven't been able to find any benchmarks or notes on resource footprints. So I turn to you all. Do you know of any web frameworks that are resource efficient and easy to build apps in? Security is also important, of course, but that's a given.
