Portable Stellarium

Sat May 04, 2019 2:52 am

Do you think it would be feasible to make a portable Stellarium like experience inside of an Altoids case? I plan on using a raspberry pi zero w with a GPS and gyroscope sensor to generate an image of the night sky and use the gyroscope the same way as you would on your smartphone with a star viewing app. The display will be inside of the Altoids case as well.

It is possible according to stellarium source forge discussion
and there are programs for that called Stellarium

But it may be slow on the pi. On their website, one person got 18 fps. The new raspberry pi 3b maybe faster and have 1 GB ram, zero might be slower.
I haven't used GPS with raspberry but will the GPS fit ? and you should need a good battery to power it .

So in one words its feasible, maybe you'll need better hardware.
