VLC and mpeg4 part 2 playback

Mon Nov 26, 2012 10:16 am

Hello,

I have been trying to use VLC to playback mpeg4 part 2 video on a raPi

I was using this over omxplayer as VLC has a very nice simple rc interface, but the logs seem to show it is not managing to use hardware accelerated decoding:

"No accelerated colorspace conversion found from yuv420p to rgb565le"

The first frame loads, then no more. Is this a solveable problem, or is omxplayer currently the only way forward?

Cheers,

Ben

...I am also having the issue that omxplayer seems unable to play my provided sdp files, exiting with "have a nice day" but no other errors...still looking into that!

VLC doesn't use the hardware to decode anything, so unless you can convince the VLC devs to add hardware decoding for the pi you're probably not going to get very far

VLC has a OMX backend - but it does not take the Broadcom specifcs
into account. The devs seem to wait till the Android port anyway.
