Hey guys, working on raspberry zero version as i m given a surveillance system based project. But facing a critical issue,my raspberry pi keeps heating a lot. Can anyone say its causes and solution?Genuine replies are appreciated. Thank you

Re: Facing heating problem
Pull the SDCard and connect the power.
Does the big black chip get too hot to touch very quickly?
If it does the only way to fix it costs £35. You'll need to understand what you've done to kill it or you'll be down another £35.

Re: Facing heating problem
It sounds like you are concerned about how hot your Raspberry Pi ZERO is getting.
First question: Is this just a concern, or are you actually having problems due to overheating?\
In either scenario, you can cool it by:

In either scenario, you can cool it by:
- increasing airflow over the Pi. Usually people have problems with temperature when their Pi is in a small enclosed area, or in a space with no airflow. You can solve the problem by adding airflow, either by moving the Pi to a better spot or by bringing a small cooling fan to it.
- increasing heat dissipation. You can simply add something (usually metal) to the flat surface of your processor, and existing airflow will do a better job wicking away heat.

Re: Facing heating problem
Apart from a damaged SoC, I thought it was impossible to over heat a Pi Zero.
Re: Facing heating problem
I wouldn't say impossible. I was playing with mine yesterday and at idle, it was sitting at 45°C - doing nothing.
I imagine if I tried running some intensive code, it could easily surpass a comfortable temperature.
The Pi Zero does have the same temperature throttle feature other Pi's have though, so technically it is impossible to overheat it (under normal use, no guarantee if you use it in an oven), but I think what is meant in this thread is unwanted temperature triggered throttling.

The OP can get a few pi zeros for £35

My first Pi 0 cost me $40 all up once I paid postage.
Then there's the multiple SD cards, power supplies, mini hdmi to hdmi adapters, otg cables, usb hubs, etc.

adding a heat sink and or fan could solve issue what are its temps and is it zero w or non w ?my kits origonal case was totaly enclosed got this and saw a 10/12 degree drop in tempshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HP ... and welcome to the forums

Re: Facing heating problem
That's high. Are you in a particularly hot area, what is ambient for you? My Pi Zeros tend to idle around 25-30°C
Even so, 45°C is well within the specs and I doubt they would go anywhere near the 85°C limit when pushed hard.
Unreadable squiggle
Re: Facing heating problem
Same here.
In about 20C ambient, one idle Pi0 runs at 29.3C, and the other under constant light load runs at 28.2C (which is strange!).

Re: Facing heating problem
How are you measuring the temperature?
Raspberry Pi computers are based on mobile technology, which is designed to run at higher temperatures than many mainstream processors. A temperature of 50C feels quite hot to the touch, but that's not hot at all for the Pi SoC. The Raspberry Pi Zero will throttle its performance down to protect itself if it gets too hot, and that doesn't even start until 80C, which would be very painful to touch (and would burn your skin if you tried to hold on to it).
So are you experiencing a genuine heating problem that is affecting the performance and stability of your Pi Zero, or does it just "feel" hot?

Re: Facing heating problem
Australia. That should tell you enough xD
Ambient right now (5:30PM) is 28°C
But I do agree that it should be hard to push a zero over the throttle temperature... I might try to do that right now.
Will update post in a while.

Now I'm having a craving for fresh baked pie, and it's midnight. Thanks a lot.

Re: Facing heating problem
Just for information, occasionally I run the same intensive job on a Pi0 and an overclocked Pi3B with active fan.
