For LED backlit screens is an LED driver needed or is this included on the board?

The AUO displays have an included driver,
the Nec display needs a separate driver board.
But I do not recommend the NL display, because its very expensive !

normaly all 8 bit single channel lvds displays should work out of the box. 6 bit displays not tested...

I have successfully tested the following displays till now:

AUO : G065VN01 V2 ~ 135 €/unit at msc-ge
AUO : G084SN05 V9
NEC: NL6448BC20-21D (additional Inverter needed)

I'll keep on testing every display, i can get

Wow, that is also great Jarobo, I can live with HDMI for a while... since I think it would be too much for me to try making this dual channel adapter by myself... I am a newbie in hardware stuff.

On the other hand I was also thinking about adding loudspeakers + amplifiers to the Pi. My goal with the loudspeakers is to make an application for deaf people... I already have the Piside of the app, which can receive and play the sounds...

Is there a way one can I follow you, or your project?

All our projects are for commercial data access terminals, we build for our customers.
We build the hardware for us as well as for general usage to get a larger count of units ... to get a better price

The loudspeaker-pcb will have 2 (smd )-speakers and a an amplifier for each . It will be directly driven by 5V an is either connectable to the standard audio-out of th Pi or to usb as usb-sound-device.
Give us 4 weeks for the first units...

Found the necessary parts, but i think it would be to expensive. The parts for USB / analog device are much cheaper ... sorry.

By the way... some of these complete receiver devices exist already, but price is heavy.

we finally got the prices for the HDMI->LVDS Adapter (But its not as cheap as hoped)...
The price depends on the chips, that are not cheap...

HDMI-LVDS-Adapter:
1 unit - 250 units : 57,98 €/unit +19% tax for non commercial and german customers
250 + units please ask for better price

LVDS cable:

21,- € / cable +19% tax for non commercial and german customers

Shipping:
5,90 € /order to Germany
15,90 € / order to other EU-Countries

The adapters are in production now and first adapters can be shipped in 3 weeks from now.

I have one question; is there a cheaper alternative for non-touch LVDS screens?

I have just inherited a few old laptop screens, and quite like using a keyboard and mouse.. So touchscreen is not essential or desirable for me.. However, low budget is.

Hi,

there is no touchcontroller on the HDMI-LVDS board,
it is only changing the Signals from HDMI to LVDS nothing else....

The price of the board depends on the price of the ICs...

Do you have confidence in it working with many different types / sizes of screens? I'd hate to buy one to find the screens I have don't work with it..

Mitsubishi AA192AA01 should work, but ist only 19,2 inch

we'll develop an 2 channel board for bigger displays after our louspeaker-project ....
but before, we have to earn some money, because hardware-development is not that cheap

Finally, the next PCBs arrived.

and I tested another AUO display with our adapter:

AUO G084SN05 V9 (800x600) works fine !
you'll need to add (edit) the following lines in your config.txt

hdmi_edid_file=1
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=9
hdmi_drive=1

framebuffer_depth 24 #(not needed, but looks better)

edid.dat (put in folder /boot) is attached (extract from zip-file and rename to edit.dat)

I'll send a link, where to buy the HDMI->LVDS online.

I'm using the Pi as the base board, and the screen will be in front of the glasses (with lenses to correct distance).

Has anybody tried the iPad Retina display?
These are quite cheap on ebay now and I've seen them hooked up to PCs and Laptops already.
This interface board may be able to drive them? Stupid high resolution too.
