Hey guys. Having a bit of trouble here. So I need a USB hub for a few peripherals, but this is meant to be used in my car so a regular 120VAC powered hub isn't going to work.
So I'm looking at just standard hubs like this:
I have a 5V 1A USB power source from the cigarette lighter. I need power for the Pi, some dongles (bluetooth, usb audio, maybe wifi dongle, OBD 2 cable), and my phone.
The RPI and the phone (Samsung Galaxy S3) use micro B.
I was looking for Y cables and the best I can find seems to be two male A and a male micro B:

I could plug one male A into power, one into the RPI's usb, and the micro B into the Pi for power. Then I could plug the hub into the Pi's second USB... would the power go through the Pi's USB slots like that? As in, would this make the USB hub powered by the Y adapter rather than the Pi's own power?
EDIT: Second question, similar. Instead of plugging the Male A into the Pi's USB slot, plug it into one of the hub's female slots?
If this doesn't work I might just break out the soldering iron and splice into the Hub's male A to bypass the Pi's power...
