How to run LibreOffice 6.1 on the Raspberry Pi 3

Fri Nov 09, 2018 9:40 pm

LibreOffice for Raspbian is stuck at version 5, but 6.1 is available. Unfortunately, the devs of LibreOffice only provide downloads of LibreOffice for x86 and not ARM. However, i386 (32-bit x86) downloads are available, and Pi386 allows you to run i386 programs on the Pi, including LibreOffice 6.1!

First of all, download Pi386 from http://www.mediafire.com/file/6j1m9ppcc ... _1.0.1.deb and install the custom 3G/1G kernel files by downloading them from http://www.mediafire.com/file/dyho3vj3j ... nel_3g.zip and enabling them with the following commands:

Code: Select all

unzip custom_kernel_3g.zip
sudo cp -rT custom_kernel /boot
Finally, reboot your system.

Install Pi386 with the following commands:

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg -i pi386_1.0.1.deb
sudo apt install -f
Enter pi386 into the terminal to enter the i386 environment.

To install LibreOffice 6.1, run:

Code: Select all

wget https://mirrors.ukfast.co.uk/sites/documentfoundation.org/tdf/libreoffice/stable/6.1.3/deb/x86/LibreOffice_6.1.3_Linux_x86_deb.tar.gz
tar -xzf LibreOffice_6.1.3_Linux_x86_deb.tar.gz
cd LibreOffice_6.1.3.2_Linux_x86_deb/DEBS
dpkg -i libobasis6.1-xsltfilter_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-writer_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-pyuno_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-python-script-provider_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-postgresql-sdbc_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-ooolinguistic_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-ooofonts_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-onlineupdate_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-ogltrans_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-math_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-libreofficekit-data_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-librelogo_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-kde-integration_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-impress_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-images_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-graphicfilter_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-gnome-integration_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-firebird_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-extension-report-builder_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-extension-pdf-import_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-extension-nlpsolver_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-extension-mediawiki-publisher_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-extension-javascript-script-provider_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-extension-beanshell-script-provider_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-en-us_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-draw_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-core_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-calc_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libobasis6.1-base_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libreoffice6.1_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libreoffice6.1-writer_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libreoffice6.1-ure_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libreoffice6.1-math_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libreoffice6.1-impress_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libreoffice6.1-en-us_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libreoffice6.1-draw_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libreoffice6.1-dict-fr_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libreoffice6.1-dict-es_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libreoffice6.1-debian-menus_6.1.3-2_all.deb libreoffice6.1-calc_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb libreoffice6.1-base_6.1.3.2-2_i386.deb
apt-get install libdbus-glib-1-2

Is compiling it difficult? Personally I haven't tried...Or why do you do this? There are also several locations where you can get libreoffice compiled and packaged as a deb.

Debian backports offers an arm64 build of Libreoffice 6.1. Does this not run on Raspbian if you have a pi with the 64-bit arm? Haven't tried it but in throry it should, with the pi 2 and 3

Or what about the version in Ubuntu for pi? Probably could also run without any modifications.

I don't know what your link offers to download but if it is an emulator of some sort, I would look for ways to run the code natively without the extra emulation layer because it will harm performance severely. Also, in general it is a bad idea to download, or suggest people do so, random binaries from the net. I would personally never do this. It is a bit of a security risk to run code on your machine that you in no way can check if it is legit.

Everybody please think more than twice before downloading software from Mediafire or other unauthenticated sources and running it! Even more so when you are instructed to use sudo to replace system files.

Whilst I am mostly sure that the OP has no neferious aims behind this, it is very true that you should be mindbogglingly careful of installing random and uncheckable binary files from random places on the internet, then installing them on to a machine in your local network.

Since there is very little description of what those binaries do, I would suggest its unsafe to follow the OP's original post. Sorry to the OP.
