Power supply for Rpi 3

Sat Oct 20, 2018 6:17 pm

Hello, does anyone know good power supplies that are cheap from the RPi sellers? I find paying 8 pound for a power supply is a bit much. I have loads of 1 Amp power supplies around the home, apple chargers, micro usb, etc that might be able to power a Rpi 3 but not sufficiently.

It is not expensive for quality, also many power supplies are chargers and will not hold a stable voltage / amperage. Buyer beware !

Yeh I already have one official one but i was wondering if there were any cheaper one for the same quality. I am using a 1 amp apple charger for my pi zero w, a ipad 2.4 amp charger for my pi 2, and a official for the RPi 3b+. I have another ipad charger but if I use it my brother will complain lol :P

The RPi 3 will be headless for a flight tracker.

For the quality, the RPF PSU is pretty cheap. I would be suspect of anything that significantly undercut it unless I was dealing with a *very* reputable supplier. You might be able to beat the price by buying in bulk. I remember MCM (now absorbed into Newark/Element14) was discounting decent PSUs...if you bought 10 or more at a time.

FYI...if you think the RPF PSU is too expensive, try pricing a proper bench power supply.

I tried a Pi 3 off one and ordered the real on the same day

It’s fine for a zero or two - not tried three
Need Pi spray - these things are breeding in my house...

How big are the transformers? And how long is the cord? My Raspberry is about 1.2m away from a socket.

Thanks,
Y

More or less the same footprint as a squared up 13 amp plug and slightly thicker. Two USB sockets, no USB to micro-USB lead supplied.

Does it look safe? Any downsides? etc. I might get one since there is a poundland a couple miles away. Hopefully they sell it.

If the Pi is too far from an outlet for the USB cable to reach, start with a extension power cord to get the PSU closer to the Pi.

I guess its still pretty good but powering a pi 3 not so good. For 2 quid its still a bargain.

Okey dokey got a power supply for £10, pretty good because it comes with universal adapters like the Raspberry Pi foundation power supply and it comes with a powerbank(3000mAh) and outputs 2.5 amps via two USB sockets, plus it has another mains socket. Lookin here(middle photo on URL): http://drycom.uk/
