SSH into Pi from Windows

Fri Nov 09, 2012 12:54 pm

I have used a few different tools to SSH into the Pi form my windows machine such as PuTTY, but recently discovered MobaXterm http://mobaxterm.mobatek.net/ It has a few nice features such as:

being able to navigate your windows system using linux commands (I seem to be forever putting windows commands into a Linux box and Linux commands into a windows machine).

Copying between machines is very easy.

Tabbed sessions

device / process listings

I like MultiExec where you can connect to several devices and run the same command on all of them.

Things I have not used are recording macros or the built in X server or many of the system tools, but all in all it seems a pretty good single tool to do many jobs. The free version is good enough for me, but if you really want all the bells and whistles it will cost 49 euro.

Hope this is of use to somebody.
(I have no connection to this product other than having used it)

Billb did a great tutorial on its use here
http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 26&t=21610

For info though I came across a little bug, if accessing headless and you have never ran startX on it attached with a proper keyboard and mouse, then the start bar does not show. I had to re-image connect to a tv boot it up once, ran startx, afterwards its no longer an issue.

I also use MobaXterm and didn't encounter this bug. And I never used a keyboard with my Pi, I control it via SSH and RemoteDroid ;)

Perhaps this bug shows only up, if you don't start directly into the GUI?

I just installed MobaXterm on my windows machines and it worked great.
Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. I would encourage anyone on the forums to give this a try.
