Hi everyone, Richard here. I've been dabbling with RPis for a year or so with varying degrees of success! I've got a RPi3 in the living room running moOde audio, and last year I built a project for the local museum which plays a WAV file and controls a smoke generator, based on a Pi Zero W. Getting that to work with Python was a challenge as I'm completely new to Python and it seems to work like no other language I've come across recently! I'm more used to Assembly Languages for microcontrollers. I look forward to joining in here.

Got my first Pi put together last week. Started off with RetroPie, then burned Raspian full on another card. Today I set up PiCorePlayer and played around with it a while. May look into making a Pi based oscilloscope to aid me in my vintage electronics restoration hobby.

By the way, (I have never introduced myself here before) I'm a 62 year-old electronic engineer from the Netherlands, and I love RPI's, and Retro computing. I'm currently designing a retro home-computer kit based on a Z80 that can generate VGA video, called "Rho CoCo" (short for Retro Home color computer). i will be receiving my slice of the pie today ,im a load Raspbian Stretch with desktop on it /i only want vlc and the ability to browse,got the abox 16gb kit and a 256 gig flash drive ,debating on a ext 1-2 tb hd or scraping a older lappy w/ a 750 gig traditional hd in it in a enclosure and ive read mixed reviews on the mSSD hat creating interference w/ wifi and that's my ONLY way to connect via my phones hot spot,i live in a very rural community.

yesterday as an early birthday gift. Long time follower and researcher of this website and now finally own one of my own!
I am 29, will be 30 on St. Patricks day. I Served 4 years in the army (paratrooper) currently reside in Sacramento, CA
Lifelong interest in anything computerized, electronic, etc. More recently in last few years Android phones (rooting, custom rom installation etc) have been my main hobby. Everything I have learned has been through the internet along with trial and error. when. It comes to the coding/scripting or whatnot I stop. Brand new to these commands/codes etc. So I hope to learn the basics while working on my pi. That's about it, excited to start learning and building!!

As my user name suggests, my name is Adam. I am 68, will turn 69 next month, am from Slovakia, and have been computing since the age of 15, way back in 1965, when computers were not yet available to most people.

At the end of 2018 I bought a 3D printer and then bought a Raspberry Pi 3B+ to control the 3D printer with Octoprint. I was pleasantly surprised by how much such a tiny computer could do, a lot more than those big computers we learned on back in 1965.

I have quickly started using it to do tasks my expensive Windows laptop has trouble doing. For example, I have recently made a video about how to backup the Raspbian image from the microSD card using Windows and the Pi itself. I went into much detail and ended up with a 10 gigabyte file I needed to upload to YouTube. Using my laptop would have taken at least a week and I would have had to keep it turned on all that time, and it would have consumed a lot of power while slowing the system to a crawl, and potentially crash.

So, I copied the file to my RPi, logged in using TightVNC and started the upload using the Chromium browser that came with the Raspbian. I then exited the VNC and let the Pi do its job. It took three days and three nights of continuous upload (my DSL does not allow high upload speeds), which was a lot less than I was expecting based on my past uploads from Windows. And I was able to turn my laptop off every night because the Pi was just doing on its own what it was asked to do.

So, I’m very happy with the RPi and plan to get several more of them and use them for specialized tasks each. And of course I will make more video tutorials and even write some software for it.

I got my first RPi at the end of 2012, and quickly became interested in electronics in general. Within two months, I designed built my first circuit. It was a photoresister with an LED; the LED got brighter as ambient light got brighter. WOW... I am soooooo cool for thinking that up!!

I went whole hog into it, and purchased several books. I also got a slew of components and basic tools, including... a Rigol DS1054Z oscilloscope. There was a code on the net (maybe not authorized!) which activated all of the features,

Problem is, I have a serious mood disorder and have cycles of severe depression. In fact, I am medically retired because of it. All too often, if I take up a new hobby, but soon after starting it, I have an episode, I do not get back into it. I think it is because my mind associates it with the bad period of time.

But I am going to give it another shot.

My name is Anh. I am a software engineer and web developer by trade from Southern California. I was just recently diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer and have been mostly bedridden since Nov 2018. I try to keep my brain occupied with my newly discovered love for the Raspberry Pi armada and trying to leverage my existing skillset to apply to this new hobby.

I have gone from one Pi3B purchased years ago for Retropie (it was the mini NES craze) to now 2x Pi 3B+, 2 x Pi 3A+, 5 x Pi Zero W and 2 Pi Zero in about a month. The fleet is managed with Red Hat Ansible and I have started publishing Ansible roles to Ansible Galaxy specific for the RPI in case others might find them useful. So far I have roles to compile and manage RealTek's RTL8812AU and 8812BU WiFi adapter drivers, uhubctl, along with crypto mining software CGMiner and BFGminer that are specialized to use USB stick miners.

In the process of setting up PRI as a web server and getting that Retropie up and running again.

I'm Danny Staple, the Orionrobots guy, a builder of robots since long before the Raspberry Pi, and now mostly using Pi's in robots. I love code and electronics, and mentor people in developing their skills. I make videos of my work from time to time on youtube at my channel [https://youtube.com/orionrobots].

I have a bit of a passion with robotics, as a creative technology endeavour, in my own way and on my own time. Although I have a technology related career, making stuff my own way has lead me to learn so many skills, build my own lab, and to share that passion with as many people who I can. I get fired up over demystifying and getting the power to create in as many hands as possible. In those passions, the Raspberry Pi (along with the Arduino, and a flurry of simple, inexpensive development boards), and the community of makers and educators have been huge part.

I am also the author of the book Learn Robotics Programming, exploring making and programming robots with the Raspberry Pi. I've spent time on not just code, but building techniques, choosing parts, bits of electronics and leading readers to the community.

I love the Pi, Makerspace and Python communities, and happy to lend a hand with my technical skills where I can.
I came here today to comment on PiWheels - Ben's rather awesome project making large projects like OpenCV less cumbersome to get up to date.

I'll see people at PiWars this weekend, where I am a reserve team with a Raspberry Pi 3A+ based robot.
