Hi my name is Markus,
im a student from austria with enthusiasm for IT but more from the user cad and cloud coumputing point of view.
I graduated in industrial design / engineering and i hope to make some contribution to modern hardware and
good working operating systems and since i dont think anyone will read my further posts:
here is my idea:
To build a raspi S (fast in german "schnell" or "sport" or "server")
It should be a model which you also can buy at low prices but you should be able to build a cluster of 2-100 out of them
get a fast network and redundand power supply, also both expandable.
Then the os should run on all of them the same time (this is the part on wich im not really an expert
but it should work for applications like
- Webserver for bigger HPs
- Renderserver (blender, mentalray, Maya, ...)
and if there are 100 os's running mouch performance is lost on this step...
low power consumption
low price (compared to all the other products on the market...)
The hw could be:
double the size plate (so all plugs go in and out one side, there is room for the expanded hw)
CPU: something from the tablet-market like my samsung tab pro has a octa core with 4x1,9 4x1,3Ghz maybe two of these
then the additional plate-space is justified
RAM: like 6x512MB per cpu and as fast as from the cpu needed (best to take also a chip from the tablet market)
RAM: and CPU and RAM can be cooled by a heat sink but only as high as the plugs go and also can be bigger if its in any use for the energy consumtion. (heat sink - i would love to make a design on that
I think that triple the energy consumption should be perfect because then the power supply would also be able to recharge tablets and accu packs
with 5V and 2.1A
Network: just sumthing fast^^ and compatible with the os
USB 3.0 would be perfect a fast connection to a ssd or ide raid should be possible, hdmi 2.0 to output videos, pics and the ongoing traffic with all the mailservers webservers renderserversoftwares running
Result should be:
The standalone Raspi S is a solid mediaserver for any home and maybe also a mail, print, smarthome,... server.
With Server Raspi S nearly everybody can have his own homeserver for webbrowsing, gaming, media, rendering, aso...
with low costs: from 300-3.000€ with a good performance adjustable to their needs...
and as i said: no noise, few costs, few energy consumption
And if it would empower your passion for this project:
I would design a case in variable size and simple design for every home.
So this would be my wishlist for some chrismas
so be gentle and say hohoho
