[Solved] Editing needs mod approval.

Fri Aug 17, 2018 11:41 am

I was editing my post here ...

https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... 9#p1354009

trying to correct "The only major issue I have - had, see below[/b] - encountered is it won't run", making that /b the /i it should have been when, after submitting the edit, up popped a message saying that the edit required mod approval.

Never seen that before and just seemed very odd. Any ideas or explanation ?

Odd... I've never had that happen. :?

EDIT: Just to see if it happens to me...

EDIT (again): Nope, seems to be fine.
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

Happened to me last night while editing a post , but when I checked right after making the edit the edit had actually taken place and there was only a second or two between the message and me checking so I doubt a mod had time to approve it .

I just assumed it was a temporary glitch.

My edit didn't take immediately, nor after a refresh, but has gone through now. I suppose it could be because edits were done in quick succession.

I'll give that a whirl - A B C D J

Aha .. apologies to mods if they are having to approve the edits ...
Information - This post has been edited successfully, but it will need to be approved by a moderator before it is publicly viewable. You will be notified when your post has been approved.
Seems to be multiple edits or multiple edits in a short time. I suppose that looks like suspicious behaviour rather than inability to craft a post and get it right in a timely manner.

Oh no! I almost always have to edit my posts multiple times before they are right. In addition to the focus on Raspberry Pi, the ability to edit old posts is one of the main attractions of this forum for me.

I've not seen any requests "from the other side" but have flagged this thread to the other mods in case they have.

This might be related to a common SPAMMING technique that has grown up recently.

The SPAMMER creates an account and posts what might be taken as a reasonable comment or question. Often cut'n'pasted from elsewhere in the forum or from some other technical site.

After letting the thread "settle" for a while the SPAMMER goes back and edits it. Replacing the content with the real SPAM payload.

So I guess, sometimes, something triggers a notification for the mods to look at and approve an edit.

Edit: No problem editing this.

Had it happen to me again, on the first edit I made after posting to correct a one-letter typo I spotted while reading things back. Might be worth winding the sensitivity of whatever triggers that down a little.

I have the same experience as you. But then replying on someone's topic. And I had this yesterday and today.

@darkbibble it's been "flagged" as an issue by another mod, as yet awaiting a response from "those that know about these things"...

This has been happening to me a lot today, but the edits go through immediately. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not sure what's going on, but it's only mildly annoying.

That's what happens to me to but not on every edit ! even if I edit the same post several times within a few mins, some times it flags it sometimes not, seems to be no logic to it totally random. :o

This happened once to me, I posted on the forum but immediately I saw a minor error on the post, edited it, posted, but then again I saw another minor error, quickly edited it and posted.

Then the "message" appeared for a while, but immediately showed my edited post.

Well.... as mentioned by hippy, maybe because editing was made in quick successions.....
now I have to pause after edits.... before re-posting....
"Don't come to me with 'issues' for I don't know how to deal with those
Come to me with 'problems' and I'll help you find solutions"

Some people be like:
"Help me! Am drowning! But dont you dare touch me nor come near me!"

Ahhh... this must be why my post about installing CouchDB 2.2 didn't show up right away. I'm pretty good at making typos and always find a few when proof reading after posting.

I suspect you are assigned an IP address by your provider that has been used before by a spammer, we recently started to try spam filtering based on lists of known spammer IP-addresses.
we are aware there is a problem, and are working on it.
