That's where I've checked, but there is no Xorg.0.log data

Might be some logs elsewhere,

try `find / -name Xorg.*` and see if it pops up elsewhere.

Thanks Dirks! Found them.
I've deleted what was there and sterted testing. To let it happen for the first time took several connects/disconnects of mouse and Keyboard.

Later it happend faster :oops: But now confirmed that any USB device can cause this to happen (USB stick too).

First of all many thanks to your alternate firmware/kernel. I try to use it with Gert VGA666 but I'm not able to use second screen as xdesktop.

what I've done:

Gert VGA666 is tested as primary display, so I'm sure hardware is working fine
after that setup correct kernel with your framebuffer-firmware
ls /dev/fb* shows two fb-devices
secondary screen (via VGA666) turns on and shows blank screen (wasn't so before setup your firmware)
with fbi I'm able to put an image on second screen, so framebuffer seems to work correctly

how can I run a second desktop / xinerama-desktop on secondary screen?

I've had (with Jessie) an USB2VGA-DisplayLink configured with xorg.conf to have a secondary desktop with own window-manager. After updating to Stretch the DisplayLink-driver is not longer supported, so i removed my xorg.conf.

I fixed it - I had to change ColorDepth from 16 to 24bit and now all is working fine now

other question: will this firmware became part of the distro?

Hi Guys,
been a while since I checked in here. I am the one who is using fb0 to display an image carosel using fbi on my hdmi screen, while displaying my gui on fb1 (LCD) using normal raspbian application.

So my problem is. If I do not connect the HDMI monitor, FBI just over writes my primary interface. (i.e. when HDMI is not connected, both the primary application and the carosel apps try to display on the LCD.

So My Question, Is there a way to confirm that the fb1 and fb0 are connected? If I can then I will check this before atempting to display my carosel.

I am using Raspberry PI 3
With Raspi version version: 4.14.50

Any help would be appreciated!

Just check to see if /dev/fb0 and /dev/fb1 exist. Most programming languages allow you to stat a file like that.

You will only get the fb1 if two screens are atached.

Indeed - for a contiguous desktop, all the FB's must be compatible.

Which resolution has your HDMI monitor and is the framebuffer of it - when monitor is not connected to HDMi - of same size?

I would try with below settings added to your config.txt

Code: Select all

hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_ignore_edid=0xa5000080
config_hdmi_boost=4
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=x
Check the value for x from the table here https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... t/video.md. Save and reboot.

This should mimik the RPi your HDMI is always connected.

Sounds plausable, however if composite were enabled shouldent any writes to "hdmi" go to composite and be "lost"? What I am seeing is that the image I was sending to hdmi is being over written on the lcd.

fyi: When hdmi is connected, fb0 appears to be hdmi. fb1 is lcd. I hard code this in my call to fbi. Any chance that when the hdmi is not connected, lcd goes to fb0? and composit goes to fb1? this might explain the overwrite.

Composite is always the lowest priority (to retain backward compatibility), and FB's are allocated in a priority order. So composite will be going to FB1 if HDMI is not connected.

Make sure desktop goes to the screen which is always connected.

did any of the multiple framebuffer code made it into latest Raspbian release (2018-10-09)? If not, can you prepare files to test with latest version?

None of the code has been merged yet, I'll need to rebuild everything on the latest tree. Might be able to do in a few days.

Trying to develop a program that will display a GUI for user on 7" touch screen that will display an image on HDMI. Getting real close.

this adapter is using the DPI interface so: yes, it works (although I never tested the VGA666).
Keep in mind that it will work togehter with HDMI only; DPI and DSI can't be used togehter!

OK, have the images built, and put them here

I think they work OK, haven't done a lot of testing, just merged to latest masters and rebuilt, with a very quick test to make sure framebuffer actually appeared.

This is 4.14.76, so slightly newer than the current release, so might be a modules mismatch.
