SK6812 RGBW (similar to ws2812b) 4 in 1 individual addressable ledstrip

Fri Jun 08, 2018 1:59 pm

Ledstrip: SK6812 RGBW (similar to ws2812b) 4 in 1 individual addressable ledstrip 5V, 18W/meter.

What is the best way to control these ledstrips? Which programming language is best fit to control these ledstrips, like python, C# or C++? Which controller is best fit to control these ledstrips, through programming language, on like a Raspberry Pi, an Arduino or a Teensy? Is there any library for Raspberry Pi?

I need full control on these LEDs with pre-programmed scripts. These scripts will be activated through input from an App and a remote control. Also these scripts will need to interact with various sensors to create special effects.

Any solution to this? I'm in the exact same situation. I would like to use NodeRed to in the end control the LEDs. I'm on a Raspi 3, latest Raspbian.

So far I think the way to go is this guide: https://learn.adafruit.com/neopixels-on ... i/software but I'm having issues - the LEDs seem to react very erratic. They react to controls but not the way they should. Wrong colors, wrong numbers, etc.

Any advice?

See this thread viewtopic.php?f=63&t=200793 where doublehp gets hos ws281* LED strips working perfectly using Python.

It required adding an "isolcpus" parameter to the kernel comand line and running the Python using "taskset".

Perhaps the same trick will work with Javascript and node-red.

I was trying to use this NodeRed module: https://flows.nodered.org/node/node-red ... i-neopixel which recommends to install a library that I think only drives RGB LEDs but I'm using RGBW so that's why I'm having the issues, I think ...

I'm now going to test this library https://github.com/jgarff/rpi_ws281x as it is supposed to work with RGBW as well, but then I'd need to write an own NodeRed module.
