You are assuming that I'm not running with a static ip and that dhcpcd is aware of this and doesn't bug me.
Since up to now you've not mentioned static addressing yes I assume you are running dhcpcd , if that's not the case it might have been helpful to mention it earlier :evil:

It never occurred to me that having a static ip would make any difference. I just have a static ip on everything, it makes /etc/hosts portable across the whole network and makes firewall mapping a whole lot easier.
My wifi is also static, but it does jot down the fact it disconnected and the reconnected in the logs.
eth0 has written nothing in the logs.
