Slim power supply

Sat Mar 17, 2018 4:42 pm

Does anyone have any recommendations for a slim PSU that puts out enough power for a Pi3B+? I have a pi mounted behind my TV on the wall (the plug socket is also behind the TV). The official power brick is too bulky. Up until now I've been using an Amazon fire stick plug, but it's not enough for the B+. Are there any good slim power bricks that put out enough power?

Not sure if it's slim enough for your application but the MeanWell SGA12U05-USB is pretty small and very reliably delivers 5V @ 2.4A. I find it works well with my Pi3B's (not plusses) although you do have to provide your own large gauge USB A to microB cable.

Why not just run a DC wall jack that outputs ~12v and around 1.5A or better (most external HDD power supplies are of this spec)
From there, put a UBEC right next to the Pi set to 5.1 ~ 5.25v and either power over the GPIO power pins, or make your own microUSB plug (a little tricker and part quality varies)
Google is ubiquitous - Try it today, it's free!

Why not just replace your wall socket then ?

This one https://www.amazon.co.uk/BG-Electrical- ... all+Socket is a dual socket with a pair of USB ports (3.1A, 5V). There are plenty of others around if you don't like these or buying from Amazon.

Another slimmer power supply is this one: https://www.adafruit.com/product/1995
It has an 20AWG attached cable and costs less than the MeanWell one.

That's a good call, thanks - I've only seen those outputting 2.1A before. That should be perfect.
