Looking for Motors / UPS hat for a pi 3

Fri Mar 09, 2018 6:55 am

Hey, specifically looking on ebay and willing to buy from China to keep costs low. I am struggling to find boards that output more than 1.8A (this page https://www.raspberrypi.org/help/faqs/#topPower recommends 2.5A for th epi 3)

I am also interested in motors (and wheels!) for this project. I hope to be able to use the Google Voice AIY kit hat as the motor board. (GPIO layout here: https://i.imgur.com/y8jg4Ca.png). Would something like these https://www.ebay.com/itm/152900512044 work? Where would I get wheels for them?

Ebay is running 20% off 3/9/2018 so any quick recommendations are much appreciated.

The motors may work if you don't stall them as they have a rating of 350-400mA, but using the Google Voice AIY kit as a motor driver board will only allow you to drive them in one direction and using the pi power supply which is not recommended as it can cause sudden voltage drops on the 5v line that could cause your pi to reboot and corrupt your SD card.

you would do better to use a proper H-bridge motor driver board that will control your motors and power them from a separate power source and control that from the Google Voice AIY kit

Do you have any specific motor boards in mind? Especially if they're on eBay, haha. Thanks!

For the small motors you linked to L9110S H-bridge or L293D H-bridge which you can get as just a chip which you can use to build your own board.
For larger motors look for L293N which will drive motors requiring up to 2A.

Would the L9110S / L293D work for this as well? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Robot-Smart-Ta ... SwnTdZ6cmT
