Arcade Monitor - Rotated display NOW Jumpy Graphics

Sun Jan 21, 2018 4:36 pm

Hi All,
I built an arcade machine with a RP3, I only really play Galaxian.
So I bought a new widescreen monitor.
Rotated it 90 degrees
Found the command line to update the config.txt file
display_rotate=1

Now though - the graphics are a bit jumpy... and no where near as smooth as they were when the monitor was in normal widescreen layout.
(this worked really well, but the display was small in the middle of the monitor with lots of black either side.

Help please (I am a Pi novice!!)

Thanks in advance.
Mark

This is a known issue. Get your emulator to do the rotation rather than the config.txt entry.

Not sure if it has made it in to the latest firmware yet, but I have added an extra config.txt option which should help with this.

extra_transpose_buffer=1

will create an extra buffer used in the transpose which should help with tearing of the image when rotated.

However, a transpose is an expensive operation, lots of HVS and SDRAM bandwidth required, so if you can do it a different way, ie at source, that is a much better option. Especially if using 1080p.
