I was trying to answer the question you asked. You haven't told us anything about size or shape requirements or what you are trying to do.
NiCads - you were lucky - we used to dream of owning NiCads .....If you ever had to put up with the short life-span of NiCads...they were really a rip off.

AFAIK 18650 cells reuire just the same protection asany LiPO.
