Today I sadly have to announce the death of an SD card.
After almost four years of daily service and 539GB worth of writes, it had a stoke and died.
Jokes aside, I am surprised the card lived that long.
It started acting up just before new years with system hangs, and today the system hung after only a few minutes after bootup.
The card is a Sandisk 8GB Class 4 which was used for datacollection from my furnace controller.
It collected about 100MB of data a day and zipped it daily into an 8MB archive. this has been running for almost three years, so a lot of data.
Luckily i don't seem to have lost any important data.
I copied the files to an newer card and checked the packages with debsums and nothing except one doc-file was missing.
The system is up and running again, hopefully for the next 4 years, although I probably should upgrade to stretch eventually. It still runs wheezy.
