Pi OBD-II reader

Sat Dec 16, 2017 9:35 pm

I am looking for help in designing a raspberry pi that can read current OBD-II data in real time and also read current faults/codes and display them in real time as well. I can’t find current information on it, seems most are out of date.

That is because OBD-II tech has not changed over the years, other than the units that you can now use that connect through Cellular service to let you know if there is a problem.

If you are looking at getting raw streaming data, that depends on how you are going to interpret all of that HEX information that is streaming, along with you would need to have a way to allow it to be read in human form, without needing to decipher by hand.

Someone has already done this project, so it is not really new for what you want to do. http://www.cowfishstudios.com/blog/obd- ... -head-unit

Plenty of info out there.

Does anyone know of one for the Pi 4? The utilities needed for these are no longer available.

I'm interested in the current state of this application as well. I need to read BWM-specific codes, and the code readers for brand-specific codes aren't cheap.
