Nextcloud Admin Account Creation Error

Sun Dec 03, 2017 1:44 am

I’m no Linux guru and I don’t know anything about Apache, databases, or PHP, however, I can follow instructions pretty well.

I just created a clean install of Raspbian Stretch with desktop, version November 2017, 2017-11-29, on my Raspberry Pi 2.

I installed Apache with no issues or errors.

I attempted to install MySQL but for whatever reason Raspbian chose MariaDB for me. I have no idea why Raspbian chose MariaDB for me. Oh well, I gots what I gots. After installation, I also ran mysql_secure_installation and created a password for the root account and answered yes to all of the questions.

I installed PHP7.0 with no issues or errors.

I installed Nextcloud with no issues or errors.

When I type in the URL that I chose for Nextcloud and hit enter, I’m taken to the Nextcloud admin account creation setup page; 192.168.1.130/nextcloud/ takes me to 192.168.1.130/nextcloud/index.php

On this admin account creation page, I’m entering the admin account credentials correctly, the Data folder path correctly (it’s already populated with the correct path), and the database root, root password, nextcloud and localhost correctly.

When I click on “Finish setup”, I receive the following error -
Error while trying to create admin user: Failed to connect to the database: An exception occurred in driver: SQLSTATE[HY000] [1698] Access denied for user ‘root’@‘localhost’

Anyone have any ideas why I might be receiving the admin account creation error? Anyone know how to fix it? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thank you.
