also, when 2017-11-29 (or 2017-12-01) is the current release, then the release date and version is wtill not up to date on the download page
https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/

release notes are uptodate (2017-11-29)

strange, when i try to download it from mozilla on ubuntu, i still get Not Found.
but on the same system from console with

Code: Select all

wget http://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspbian_lite/images/raspbian_lite-2017-12-01/2017-11-29-raspbian-stretch-lite.zip
i get it downloaded.

I usually get them using the torrents. If direct download is not working for you, try the torrent. Out of curiosity I did try a direct DL of 2017-11-29-raspbian-stretch-lite.zip and it seems to be working for me (2 minutes left).

EDIT:
My direct download completed, but the torrent finished first. I assume the SHA-256 hashes are incorrect because the DL page is still showing the September version, so I'll compare my torrent and direct DL and see what I get.

SHA256 hash for both files matched.
e942b70072f2e83c446b9de6f202eb8f9692c06e7d92c343361340cc016e0c9f *2017-11-29-raspbian-stretch-lite

Still waiting on the Desktop DL (will update when done and compared).

And the race is on!
Torrent was slow going at first. It looked like the direct DL was going to win, but the torrent is pouring on the steam now and picking up speed.

Torrent = 2+ MB/s vs Direct DL @ 900KB/s. The DL doesn't stand a chance...

DL page has now updated for me and is showing the 2017-11-29 SHA256 hashes. The one above for Lite is correct.
And the torrent has won again! 14 minutes left on the direct DL...

SHA256 verified for the torrent download.

Still waiting for the direct DL... and waiting... and waiting...

And we're done and verified. So at least in my little cold, wet corner of the world, it seems to be working fine.

Ooooh! There's an update to the x86 ISO as well! Gotta get that Debian Stretch with Raspberry Pi Desktop too!

Thanks to all those who worked hard on preparing these latest updates and making them available to us! Image Image

There's always going to be a blip on the day when a new version of Raspbian is published.

Check the SHA-256 hash (checksum) of your downloaded file matches that shown on the downloads page. In case the download is corrupted somehow.

I have heard tell that WIndows sometimes unzips files automatically for you when downloaded.

Hi !

Can't download the latest release ? Sure, i get a file, but when i try to unzip it i get this message:
Either your download is corrupt (in which case, download it again or use the torrent), or your unzipping software can't handle large file sizes (the current image extracts to over 4GB in size).

Go to https://etcher.io/ to get the Etcher software. Install Etcher and use that to extract and write the image to your SD card (Etcher will extract the image while writing).

as "Heater" already told...
check the sha256 sum and compare it with that from the web page.

Code: Select all

[email protected]:~/update $ sha256sum 2017-11-29-raspbian-stretch.zip
if the sum is not correct, then your download is corrupt.

Re: Raspbian download broken

Just download fresh copy of 2017-11-29 raspbian stretch with desktop from web site.

used 7zip to unzip it on windows pc no errors, img file size 4,919,918,592 bytes

then unziped it using unzip on x86 pc running ubuntu server 12, no errors, img file size 4,804,608KB

then unziped it using unzip on raspberry pi 3B running stretch with desktop 2017-11-29, no errors, img file size 4,804,608KB

so I would say you have a problem with downloading the file.

Edit .... Bernd seems to have discovered this while I was running the tests. never mind.

So I just downloaded Raspbian again. No problem. I checked the hash in BASH for Windows

Code: Select all

$ sha256sum  2017-11-29-raspbian-stretch.zip
64c4103316efe2a85fd2814f2af16313abac7d4ad68e3d95ae6709e2e894cc1b 2017-11-29-raspbian-stretch.zip
Which matches that on the download page.

Then I check that it unzips OK:

Code: Select all

$ unzip 2017-11-29-raspbian-stretch.zip
Archive: 2017-11-29-raspbian-stretch.zip
  inflating: 2017-11-29-raspbian-stretch.img
$ file 2017-11-29-raspbian-stretch.img
2017-11-29-raspbian-stretch.img: DOS/MBR boot sector; partition 1 : ID=0xc, start-CHS (0x0,130,3), end-CHS (0x5,204,60), startsector 8192, 85045 sectors; partition 2 : ID=0x83, start-CHS (0x5,220,24), end-CHS (0x256,37,15), startsector 94208, 9515008 sectors
$
So all is well.

I know this is a bit of a "works for me" post, but really this is simple stuff that has been working for many years.

Along the way I noticed this abomination on the download page:

"Note: Raspbian and NOOBS contain Java SE Platform Products, licensed to you under the Oracle Binary Code Licence Agreement available here. Mathematica and the Wolfram Language are included in this release under license and with permission of Wolfram Research, Inc. and may be used for non-commercial purposes only. By using this software you agree to be bound by the Wolfram Raspberry Pi Bundle License Agreement available here."

Well no. I do not want Java SE Platform or Mathematica.

No, I do not agree to any such terms. I just want the Free and Open Source software that makes Raspbian.

Why is that stuff even in there?

I presume this nonsense does not apply to Raspbian Lite.

Or, on the other hand, why does that notice not also remind me of where all the hundreds of other Free and Open Source packages come from that are included in Raspbian and that I have to abide by their licensing conditions?

Sounds to me, codinggoat, like you have a network problem. Perhaps ending up with some only partially downloaded file.

My download took over half an hour. Which is a long time seeing as my network connection easily manages 50MB/S. Perhaps things are timing out some place for you.

Re: Raspbian download broken

Well it may not be codinggoat's network.

When I did my test used a windows pc to download the file on virgin 70Mb broadband took about 20min. no problem

Just tried it on my pi3B running stretch with desktop and the down load said it would take 20min ,at the moment its saying o time left and has been for over 15 min but the file has still not completed the download ! it just seems stuck.
so may be its some thing to do with the chromium browser on stretch ?

going to cancel it and try again.

Edit.

Tried stretch lite, again download but then to ages to confirm the file but got there in the end.

Edit2.....

So it seems you can download stretch with desktop ok but it take a long time for the file to be confirmed ? longer than it took to download it in my case ( the file unziped just fine) .

you have to wait for the file download to finish

In the image there are 2 files that have been download the one on the right has finished and is usable but the one on the left although it looks like the download is complete its not you have to wait till it looks like the one on the right.

you can try to use wget on the command line to do the download. maybe then you will see some output to see what is going wrong.

Code: Select all

wget http://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspbian/images/raspbian-2017-12-01/2017-11-29-raspbian-stretch.zip
or if your internet line is too slow, then try torrent download ("Download Torrent" on the webpage).
i think a torrent client will detect download errors, because each download part has a check sum, and re-download faulty parts.
in case the torrent client "Transmission" is not installed already by default, you can do it with:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install -y transmission-gtk
you after installation, you will find "Transmission" in the menu of "Internet"
transmission.PNG

Many thanks to all for your help, tonight I was able to download a version as a torrent and unpack without errors ... next problem:

With Etcher I pack the img on a 32gb-class10 card, works and boots
If I pack the same img on a 64gb-class10 card, the partition table seems to be invalid, respectively. the boot partition does not exist?

Try writing the image without unpacking it. Use Etcher to write the .zip file directly (Etcher will extract the image while it's writing).

Also, did you verify your download SHA256 checksum with the one published on the download page (should be fine with a torrent download, but check it anyway, just to be sure)?

And finally, have you tested your 64GB card to see if it's a fake?
