OS w/ web server on 2GB SD card?

Tue Nov 21, 2017 4:32 pm

Hi all!

I'm currently working on a arduino/raspberry project where i have a pi zero w web server receiving very simple and custom post request then writing simple 9-12 chars strings on the serial connection to a rainbowduino LED cube (which will then process the string to do stuff and control leds accordingly.)

The thing is that i only have a 2GB SD card and i must have a unix OS with a web server and php. I was simply wondering which pi zero w compatible distro is light enough to have php and a web server running on 2GB (knowing that all my local files and project should hold on less than 25MB (and i'm being generous)).

Why the 2GB SD card? Well i happen to use my bigger ones on other projects/devices and i think this project is simple enough to have a chance to work with it. Still better than throwing it in the trash, eh?

Any propositions are welcome (yes, including "go get yourself a bigger SD card!").

Thanks!

2 Gig's is not going to give you much room. Easier to just get a 64GB or larger USB pocket drive or SSD drive in a enclosure and run your setup that way.
Ren: Now listen, Cadet. I've got a job for you. See this button? Ren: Don't touch it! It's the History Eraser button, you fool! Stimpy: So what'll happen? Ren: That's just it. We don't know. Maybe something bad, maybe something good.

Jessie Lite running SimpleHTTPServer.

There are smaller ways but not on a Zero W.
It is a bit tricky to set up on an OS like PiCore <100MB, fits on 128MB card
I have done it baremetal < 4MB with Ultibo but only on a B+, don't have a 8MB card

PiCore + busyboxhttpd + php. = my preferred small Linux solution.
But I have not had much luck with WiFi on the Zero W.
I have not tried recently, been waiting for the next release of PiCore ;)

Busybox includes a HTTP-server and CGI-scripting. (May be PHP can be added somehow, I've never needed this.) The resulting system should be about 30 or 50 MB in size. (may be among?)

A: What does the command 'cat /dev/urandom', can you tell me please?
B: Yeah, that's very simple: It feeds your cat with radioactive material!
