Now the puzzle is how can I pursuade the household finance director that we need a holiday in Brazil, failing that I need a Brazilian mainframe customer who needs some Systems Programming support.

Shocked to discover that these people I had come to regard as part of my online 'family' on the basis that they were calm, rational, relatively unemotional wire-heads suddenly turn out to be afflicted with OCD and have to have something new and different...

Blue Raspberry Pis limited edition were given out as special prizes a couple of years back if memory serves me.

I guess they are not so special now.

Seriously: Showing us a blue RasPi only to tell us we can't buy one is just plain cruel. It's april fools and halloween combined cruel.

@Raspberry Pi Foundation: You just opened Pandora's box!

Wouldn't it be nice to have RasPis in different colors?

Isn't it Ragworm who do lots of coloured PCBs, as used by Pimoroni on Flotilla?
Probably a bit pricey for mass producing Pi PCBs.

I would suggest checking the legality of doing that before embarking on such a course. The Foundation does not condone, support or encourage illegality or those indulging in that.

Perhaps the Foundation could clarify the legality of the situation, exporting, importing, and using boards which are not manufactured for the UK/EU market, as they see it.

It's a personal import of a legally possessed item so it's nobody's business apart from the 2 parties involved in the exchange. I'm assuming that Brazil don't make their Pis out of ivory and CITES restricted rosewood.

Might be a bit over the duty free quota and will require some VAT too though.

Legal there but not necessarily here. Anyone getting drugs or guns shipped in can quickly discover that being legal over there doesn't make them okay here. "It's a private two-party transaction and nobody else's business" doesn't usually stand up in court.

Some items may be legal to export, but not legal to import, or not legal to use. An otherwise legal export may not always be legal if exported for illegal use. Matrix Churchill was a huge case here.

I am not sure what the position is on imports and use of a product which doesn't have a required CE mark on it. Which is why I recommended checking the legality.

I would expect there is a special 'for export only' case for "Made in the UK" and not having CE marking as seems to be the case for the Brazilian Blue Pi. Bringing one back into the UK/EU is where the problems would start to arise if there are any.

Who says they are actually going to use them.

Why not hang around the back of a factory in Wales and slip a few fivers or even £100, probably cheaper...

Not me and some people do seem to be wanting them just to display or to have a complete set of every Pi variant ever made.

Is that legal ? If it's not legal to import a product which requires a CE mark without a CE mark then it probably isn't, regardless of how it's used after being imported. One would have to check the relevant legislation or regulations.

I have Pi serial number #0000000001, how much do you think that is worth?

I also have a Pi prototype, worth?

Whatever you think something is worth, is not necessarily what it is worth to other people.

The recent sale of the Da Vinci for $450M is a case in point.

Seriously? It's a small electronic computing device, not a gun or drugs, neither of which would meet my definition of "legally possessed". But thanks for reminding me that some guns and some drugs are not legal here. I might have forgotten otherwise.

And CE marks become a problem if you want to import items to sell into the market (even though plenty of items without CE are available for sale here) it's not a problem bringing something to the UK for personal use.

I would be very concerned if tax revenue was being wasted chasing Pi owners.

I have been told that's not the case for boats brought in as a personal import, but I don't know the full story there or whether that would apply to Pi.

Given the only difference is the colour of the PCB, there are no issues with this.

I would also point out that this is for a handful of enthusiasts. Nothing the boys in blue would be interested in. Although given the Brazilian Pi is blue, maybe they would.
