Nice new pink packaging box from RS

Sat Oct 06, 2012 8:26 pm

Even if RS Components did communicate very badly about the delays, they did a good job regarding the new plastic packaging box:

The Raspberry Pi snaps in even when the box is opened (there are plastic "fingers" holding the Pi). There is enough place for the SD card. You can even operate the Pi inside the opened box. You do not need a case.

Hmmm... I wonder if that's the "basic case" that Liz has mentioned as a default for things like schools? If so...it's not a bad one (though an option for a different color would be welcome).

Thanks for the pics, interesting container. My hunch is that they did this as a way to prevent so many units from being damaged in shipment, as well as to serve as appropriate packaging for the units being sold in retail outlets. It is more sturdy, isn't it?

I don't know about that....the units I got from RS came in very sturdy cardboard boxes. It's the ones from Farnell that had rather flimsy packaging.

Mine came in the pink plastic box. I think it's brilliant. I no longer need to consider purchasing a case at what some might consider extortionate prices.

Great! I think I will just use it as the case for my RPi. Should be easy to cut 4 holes into the lid for power, USB, HDMI and ethernet.

Finally some sort of included case! Looks quite easy to create holes for you cables too!
RS trying to make up for poor handling of their shortage perhaps? Almost makes me want to order from them.
Farnell its your turn. Better out do RS!
IMO farnell's sales will suffer if they don't have something equal before RS starts running smoothly.
