Problems with omxplayer on Fedberry

Sat Jul 29, 2017 10:20 pm

* failed to open vchiq instance
This is the error I get when tried to open a .mov
Any suggestion????
Command ran is
omxplayer -o hdmi -- win "0 0 640 480" myvideo.mov
Tried other as well but I still get the error "failed to open vchiq instance".
I have no idea what that means. Any help?? Reason using FedBerry is that I'm studying Fedora distros.

Hi.

Think you will get much better support for Fedberry on their chat page. https://gitter.im/fedberry/chat
Remember we want information.......................no information no help
The use of crystal balls & mind reading is not supported

As compared to other distros, security on Fedberry is a bit tighter and by default, won't allow access to /dev/vchiq for non root users. If you want to use omxplayer as a non root user, you will have to add the desired user to the 'video' group and then reboot. Eg.

Code: Select all

usermod -aGvideo USERNAME

[Thank you so much. Did not know it was a security issue. I switched to root and it works. Again thank you. Now I learned something new
