STICKY: NEW FORUM SKIN - Comments here please.

As you will no doubt have realised, the forum has been offline today for an upgrade. We are now running the latest version of the forum software, which has all the latest security fixes. We have also changed the Raspberry Pi forum style to something that should be a bit slicker!

We will still be making changes to the skin over the next few months as we iron out any problems, but now we are on a recent forum software package this should be a lot easier.

Please give the new skin a go, and if you have any comments? Keep them in this thread please!

It is a lot less intuitive which button is to be used to insert a URL or

Forum skin looks quite good (I switched a long time ago to Prosilver as the RPi skin lacked functionality such as New Posts), on both my desktop (1920x1080) and on tablet (Samsung TAB Android).

This skin is quite generous with screen estate., lots of white space, large font, I prefer a bit more condensed look. When I set the browser zoom level to 80% it looks much better

I am back to PROsilver until the dust settles

The most important thing was upgrading the software, everything else will follow now that is done. This is just an intermediate step.

Prosilver is the standard phpBB theme! So blame them for that.

Seconded. Main body of text almost disappears against the signature font.

In the Prosilver theme, still my favorite, I miss the buttons for New posts etc.
I know they are under Quick links, but that's an extra click that should not be necessary.

Not bad. Not bad at all. I like it! Much better with the header bar there. Makes the site feel unified, even though I bet under-the-hood it's not! Nice job everyone

RPI is much better than raspberry_pi (aside from the fact that RPI is missing a "View New Posts" button.

In the "RPi" board style it's OK, only in the "raspberry_pi" style the font is too big...

1st imrpession liking the new Pi theme - didn't like the missing features from the old one so just used prosilver
(I don't care about aethsetics - just need stuff to work)

I went to Specsavers yesterday. I don't need any 14 point fonts on here, yet.

Can you give me an option to set the font size, or make things smaller. (You're stealing desktop real-estate, which could be better used).

I may be heading for Prosilver.

I came on with the prosilver layout and now have a nicer mobile prosilver view (not quite like on the phpBB forum)
There are two other options?

I think I'm now on RaspberryPi (the other was a bit messy).
Seems to be like this website-ish, but not like the newer education pages we get.


There are a few formatting issues on my mobile.
Some text is large, some is pretty small and some click boxes are missing placed.

But no point in commenting on them if they are not the default.

getting a menu issue with that white box over at top left using Chrome/Win10 (same effect - slightly different in MS Edge as well)

me too. i have as well that menu lost in space. windows 10 /Edge; screen resolution 1920x1080 100%
but that "lost in spac menu" disappear, when i go from maximized to windowed mode.

normally i am using "prosilver". good contrast between text and background.
but in the new version i don't like the "Quick links" menu. it is a step more i have to do, to reach my own posts.
previously is was only one click far. now i have to so one more + extra navigating the mouse.
oh, yes and "mark subforums read" is missing

i will give the "RPi" mode a try, it has a "mark forums read",
but the contrast of text and relative dark gray makes it hard to read on some screens / TVs, while writing a post.
and too much waste space between post and the signatur and the other comments in general.
and the lost-in-space menu from "About".

but still "raspberry_pi" mode is still absolutely unusable and ugly to me.
no feature "mark forums read", no visual feedback to see what is going on in the forum.

EDIT: sorry, but i am back to prosilver. it is too hard to write posts with that terrible text/background contrast of RPI theme.
EDIT2: grr.. nooo... please remove the "Quick links" menu and put back the links as it was - or add an option to have the chioce in the profile settings.

RPI is still under development so will have issues, but feel free to try it out and comment.

Much better than the old raspite theme..

I do like the way raspberry_pi theme integrates with the rest of the website (same header) but seems garish and signatures way too big
RPI theme better, but I've still gone back to prosilver

Looks good to me so far. -- Added: Strike that. Seems I am using prosilver which is the only one which looks half decent on what I use. Not sure if I was on that or have been defaulted to it. However the following still stands.

There used to be a "View your posts" link which doesn't seem to be on that page now, or I can't see it. Would be nice to have that back.

Totally agreed.

In common.css please remove "max-width: 1152px;" from .wrap

Websites shouldn't dictate how much of the width of my screen I'm allowed to use!

(I'm not even a fan of the "padding: 15px;"....)

1) Install Stylish: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/stylish/
2) Go to Tools->AddOns->User Styles->Write New Style: and paste in:

raspberry_pi is the new default. The RPI skin is new for me, and never heard about it before the first time I logged into with the updated PhpBBS. still have to discover what it does. Prosilver, it has been said many times before, is simply the default, (unmodified so far as I know) skin. If you google pictures for PhpBBS you will almost only see pictures with this default blue skin.
