NOOBS is just a simplified way to set up an operating system on a RPi. If you think your running operating system version is 'out of date', update it

From the command line, when connected to the internet, run

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

If you want a full, new clean operating system, follow the instructions at

https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/

To connect to your Rip and home network remotely, install a VPN connection, as I assume from your post you are probably happier with as close to plug and play as possible, i suggest
