USB memory sticks

Fri Sep 28, 2012 2:13 pm

I've added a 32GB memory stick to my Pi set-up.
I can read and write files to this stick using the GUI and file-manager or the Leafpad editor.
However, access is denied from the command line, root and branch.

I have missed a trick somewhere! any ideas?

Well, who'da thought it. I can use nano and the stick IF I use the desktop terminal, but not the post login command line inputs. What can be the difference?

You probably have to mount your USB stick filesystem before you can use it. Desktops usually take over mounting filesystems of removable for you.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_%28computing%29 for more background.

What I found which works is use a wildcard.
ls /media/* which gives you access to "USB DISK"
