wiringPi speed

Mon Jun 12, 2017 12:56 pm

Using wiringPI can the raspberry pi send one byte in 2uS using an 8bit parallel interface? I’m looking at doing a framebuffer project that would require sending 1360 bytes from the raspberry pi in about 3000uS. Can that speed be obtained and be consistent?

Only you know the precise details of what needs to be done. That means you are in the best position to write the few lines of needed code to find out.

@joan

I agree 100%..but I am also looking to see if anyone, with much more experience then I, has had any success sending bytes of data in an 8bit parallel interface. Example seem very hard to come by. All the examples I see are for serial interfaces.

Well this is, perhaps, not quite the best example (but it is a parallel interface for which I have written 'C' code using wiringPi)

and, FWIW, here is some timing info. for the above and other interfaces to the same (or similar) display family (largely influenced by the requirements of the receiving processor in the LCD module).

Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie on some older Pi's (an A, B1, B2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W) but Stretch on my 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, A+ and a B2. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm
