If I have the printer powered down and connected to the Pi and then turn the printer on, that will also stop the Pi.
If the printer is powered up and connected and then the Pi is rebooted everything is good. My Python program runs OK and can print via CUPS without problems.
I am assuming this is a power type issue rather than software. I have a good quality PSU and a powered USB hub. I have also tried having the Pi and USB hub powered via a UPS just in case its a mains issue when switching on the printer. I am keen to sort this issue as I know that at some stage someone will turn the printer Off/on to clear a paper feed issue or change a printer cartridge.
When the printer is turned on it appears that everything stops. If I am connected in headless mode I loose the connection and cannot reconnect. The Python program that monitors a serial port and then prints info to the printer also appears to stop.
I don't have another printer to try at the moment, that will be the next thing to try.
Any other suggestions please.
Thanks in advance.
Model of RPi ??
If a B+ / 2B / 3B what happens when not using a powered USB Hub ??
