Questions about A rack for a Raspberry Pi Cluster

Wed Apr 12, 2017 6:31 pm

Hello everyone,
I am Chuck, and i'm looking for a rack solution for Raspberry pis. I am wanting to cluster up raspberry pis. I am going to start out small and go up from there.
Does anyone have any recommendations on a way to organize Raspberry pis in a rAck form that is Modular, and easy to add on too?
I've seen a few things online, and on Thing a verse, but as someone who is blind. I can not see the pictures so it is not helping me any.
Thanks in advance.
Chuck

I just built a mini-rack by simply bolting 5 Pi's together with 25mm standoffs. Very solid, but the cable management is a bit haphazard.

I haven't seen any modular ones, offhand, but I keep looking longingly at this Bramble Box case from c4labs.net. It'll hold 4 Raspberry Pi 3B's stacked one atop another with (optionally) a Western Digital PiDrive at the bottom of the stack. I've been impressed with their other cases (their parts fit together very well and have nice/useful design touches), but haven't yet been able to bring myself to buy 4 of everything to fill up one of these.

This is about as small as you can get.
A Cluster hat that goes on the Header and holds/comms to 4 Zero's via their USB connectors.

Any smaller and you would have to use a stack of CM3's.
The other way was the Lego cluster from years back.

I got a unit from Amazon that can hold 5 pi 3's, actually with multiple kits you could add more. It has no side peices so ventelation is better. I will be adding a fan system this summer as they still generate heat.

Works good for me with one of the 6 or 7 port usb charging units. I dont cluster they all run seperate functions and they are headless. I am in USA....

Here's a "left field" idea...

Print your own!

You should be able to find a 3D printing group in your area, or some can be printed and sent to you.

personally I'd love to get the circular one filled with pies ;)

But they do have a u2 sized 'blade' rack mount ;)

I prefer the standoffs to a box due to our hot weather. No point in a cluster of Pi when each one slows down due to heat.
