Hi everybody.

Recently, I created a python chat application at school so I could talk to other my friends who were running the script anywhere around school. I put it in a shared folder so anybody could navigate and run it.

Usually, socket programming is used so a server script must be running but this is not suitable so I created my application using a gmail account and tkinter. I have posted the code on github.

Head over to my blog to find out more: https://thereallycoolstuff.wordpress.co ... plication/

Please try it out and let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Why not just use Gmail directly.... seems crazy to write an application to send messages that uses email as the transmission method.

Well, as I had written in my post at the given link,

1) All messages are sent and fetched to and from one single gmail account.
2) Therefore, whoever runs it, especially from a shared folder, there is no setup required and the user can chat with everybody else who is running the script, configured with the same gmail account.
3) Only one person needs to configure my script with their new gmail account and then distribute it or put it in a shared folder where anybody can run it.

I suggest reading my post and running the application to get a full understanding of it.
Thanks.
