I find a little pressure from below, using the GPIO cutout in the base allows this, or a finger nail under one end. Have had no problems.

I've had no problem. Just pull the side wih the clip sway slightly and push the Zero up from underneath.

I have the camera lid installed and it opens very easily. The lid projects a little bit along the connector side. The bottom edge below the connectors has a lip. Put one thumb against the edge of the lid and the other against the lower edge, with fingers along the opposite side, and pull apart.

I don't think there is any danger of damaging the Pi Zero as it puts no stress on the PCB, it only applies force to the plastic case.

It is well held in the case - deliberately so I'd say, so that you can unplug a HAT from it whilst still housed in the case.

rpdom described the procedure already, but:

1. Hold the case with your right thumb over the long edge with the HDMI and USB sockets, with the exposed Zero PCB facing you.
2. Now put your left thumb on the other long edge, above that little securing tab.
3. Use your left thumb to spring the left side out, and at the same time poke your left index finger up through the opening on the bottom for the 2x20 GPIO header.
4. It'll rotate out once you have it past that securing tab, but you may need you move your index finger over the wider opening near the RUN/TV header and push further.

Nice design!

Doh! Sorry.

Just lift a corner on the connector side with a fingernail or small screwdriver. It's had to lift the gpio edge because there is a locating ledge. You can flex the connector side edge out a little to clear the connectors.

Or, as already described, flex the other edge to move the retaining ledge and push below the exposed gpio
