Steaming games from my Desktop to TV

Would I be able to use a raspberry pi to stream the video from a game to my television in another room so that I could play games on my couch?

I'm not familiar with linux and I don't know if there are any remote-desktop-ish solutions for it that could be run on the raspberry pi and still be able to handle a 1080p stream.

Sorry but I don't think anything will come close to doing what you want the remote desktop viewers are just too slow and resource intensive.

The Pi can handle that. No problem.
The problem is there is no solution FOR YOUR PC which
can screencast 1080p as h.264 stream without lag. Apple Macs Airplay Mirroring
for example , seems to use special hardware acceleration.
