Hi,
I've got my RPi running XBMC and want to use this Pluscom 7 port powered USB hub with it. The hub powers the RPi fine but XBMC doesn't recognize any usb devices that are plugged into the hub but does recognize them if plugged into the RPi usb ports with the hub disconnected.
I suspect that I've got to load in a device driver. Does anyone know how I can break into XBMC so that I can do a search in the apt-cache? or better still if someone has already done this and can advise me.

Thanks

Paul

look at dmesg to see exactly what is going on, just run the command "dmesg".

you might need to add some devices to /etc/fstab in order to get them to mount automatically.

oh, I know nothing about xbmc, this is about commandline research and fix.

Thanks sdjf,
Part of my problem with this is that I don't know how to break out of the user interface to get to a terminal. Once I can do that I'm in with a fighting chance.

Then maybe you might have better luck getting help if you asked in your distribution's subforum, for how to get to a terminal. Your goal is to solve a hardware issue, but the blockage now is a software one, so maybe ask where people expect software questions?

There ought to be some kind of menu in your GUI that shows available software, but I do not know XBMC at all.

If you put the following into a google search, it brings up pages talking about how to do it - I think (the hyphen tells google you want those two words to be attached to each other):

open-terminal xbmc

Maybe one of those pages will help you get to a console???

Thanks,
Got it now. You have to click the shutdown icon, select exit from the menu when it subsequently appears then quickly press ESC. This brings you to a prompt where you enter the username pi & password raspberry.
