A basic question about Pi 3

Fri Jan 06, 2017 8:44 am

Hi all

Long time no post. I'm thinking of grabbing me some pi (3) and I have a question about the Ethernet port. Is it still constrained by the USB2 speed?

Thanks

Yes. There has been no change to the SOC architecture and the Ethernet port is still connected via the USB bus.

the Ethernet is not constrained by the USB2 port - it runs as fast as it can, the LAN9514 is a 100mbps part
you can get fast speeds if you use a USBGig Ethernet adapter - though that will be constrained by the USB interface to <480mbps
